Election to Select Nominees for
District Court Judge Position July 8
This is formal notice of an election
meeting of the Tenth Judicial District Bar to be conducted Tuesday, July
8 to select nominees for the vacant District Court Judge position resulting
from Judge Fullwood’s retirement. We will select five nominees to submit
to Governor Pat McCrory for his consideration in filling this position. The
term of this position will be the remainder of the term to have been served by
Judge Fullwood, which ends December 31, 2014. The election will be held at
the North Raleigh Hilton in Grand Ballroom 2. Voting will be available
from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Only Tenth Judicial District members who reside in
the District are eligible to vote.
Candidate Qualification and Notification. To qualify as a nominee for
this position, a member must be a resident of and be duly authorized to
practice law in the Tenth Judicial District, which consists of Wake
County. Any such
qualifying member who wishes to be a candidate for this judicial seat must
notify me of his or her intention in writing and provide proof of residency,
such as a copy of a driver’s license. Notification should be emailed,
mailed or delivered to the following address:
1. Location of Election Meeting.
The election will be held in Grand Ballroom 2 at the North Raleigh Hilton,
located at 3415 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh.

To be a
candidate in the election, the member must ensure that such written notification
is received at the above address no later than noon on Tuesday, June 24,
qualifying members whose written notifications are received by this deadline
will be placed on the ballot.
3. Voluntary Candidate
Information. Persons desiring to be considered in this election are
requested to submit a statement of personal and professional information
concerning his or her credentials by June 24, pursuant to guidelines
adopted by the Bench-Bar Committee and approved by the Boards of Directors of
the Tenth Judicial District Bar. Information submitted by applicants,
along with the minimum qualifications developed by the Bench-Bar Committee,
will be posted at the website of the Wake County Bar Association (www.wakecountybar.org) several days
prior to the election meeting to assist members of the Tenth Judicial District
in evaluating applicants. We anticipate posting these materials by
Wednesday, June 25 and sending all members a message by email once those
candidate materials have been uploaded. Participation by candidates
in this evaluation process is voluntary. Information regarding the guidelines
and the submission process is attached to this notice.
4. Voting. The voting
will be conducted by secret written ballots. Voting is limited to those
attorneys licensed to practice in North Carolina, who reside in Wake County,
and who are members in good standing of the Tenth Judicial District Bar.
Each such member is entitled to vote for up to five candidates. Ballots marked
for more than five candidates will be disqualified. The five candidates
receiving the highest number of votes cast will be the nominees submitted by
the Tenth Judicial District Bar to the governor for his consideration. Voting
will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m. There will
not be a candidates’ forum held. The ballot count shall be finalized
immediately after the meeting concludes.
5. Results of Election.
Following the meeting, I will communicate to Governor McCrory the names of the
five candidates receiving the most votes along with the number of votes
received by each. The Tenth Judicial District Bar members will be notified by
email of the names of the five nominees, and the names will also be listed on the
WCBA and Tenth J.D. Bar website and in the next broadcast email to the entire
Tenth Judicial District membership.
